Amanda Brugel

Tessa Tessa Amanda AmandaPointe Claire lies in that uninhabited part of the city's West Island. The West Island, which is frequently described as an independent "island" west of Montreal by those who are unfamiliar with it, actually comprises everything east of Lachine. Amanda Brugel was born there and that's the truth. However, she only spent a short period of time there. Brugel grew-up in Courtice near Oshawa. She had a dream to dance, but her growing years meant that she grew beyond her dance partners. In an article published by The Toronto Star, she confessed, "In heels I am 6'1 inches tall." As soon as I reached the height of my male friends I had been working together, I made the decision to stop. Numerous former dancers choose to become actors. For Brugel she was urged to do so by an instructor of drama in the high school. The teacher encouraged her to try out for roles in her school's production. She auditioned and ended up playing the character in Anne of Green Gables. The show led her to receive the award of a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theatre Program and graduated with her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2000.In the twenty years since, Brugel has landed roles in more than 60 productions in both the small and the large screens. She attracted the most notice when she won the lead role of Rita on the award-winning television series, The Handmaid's Tale
