Nicky Whelan became known in Australia through her character Pepper Steiger, which she played in the soap show Neighbors, during a hundred episodes that were broadcast from 2006 and 2007. The very first role she played in Hollywood was the choral comedy Hollywood & Wine in which she played a young actress who is new to Hollywood. Then, she was offered a part in the role of Maya in Scrubs the ninth season of Scrubs where she played a captivating medical student. It was then abruptly cancelled. Then, she continued with the Farrelly brothers comedy Good to Shoot that was co-starred by Jason Sudeikis and Owen Wilson. Then, the actress made appearances in B series movies, shorts or series. In 2013, she had the opportunity to take on more challenging tasks. She appeared in six episodes in the show about detectives Franklin and Bash and then she was given her first part as a regular in the online series Chosen. She is featured in both seasons and is also a part of the response to Chad Michael Murray. Then she played roles of support in two feature films which featured airplanes. One of them was made for SyFy, Flight 7500, One Way Back with actors from television shows, and Another film is Le Chaos with Nicolas Cage.
